Who is Kyle Davies?

Short answer: Kyle Davies is a Singapore based entrepreneur,[1][2][3][4] crypto expert,[5][6][7] one of the world’s biggest crypto holders,[8][9] best known as the founder of Three Arrows Capital, a crypto-focused hedge fund that is currently going through the liquidation process in the British Virgin Isles.[10][11]

Early life and education[edit]

Davies studied at Columbia University before joining Credit Suisse as a derivatives trader in Tokyo. After three years at the Swiss bank, he quit and launched "Three Arrows Capital" with his friend, Su Zhu, to begin trading traditional currencies in emerging markets.[12]

Career[edit]

After working for a few years at Credit Suisse, Davies launched a startup which went on to become the world’s largest crypto portfolio in 2021.[13][14] It was in 2012, while temporarily living in San Francisco, that Davies and his co-founder Su Zhu pooled their savings and borrowed money from their parents to put about $1 million into a seed fund for Three Arrows Capital.[15][16][17]

Kyle and his co-founder, Su Zhu, guided the fund to approximately $3 billion in assets as of April 2022.[18][19][20] However, due to their investments in LUNC and Terra, along with the plummeting of both Bitcoin and Ethereum, caused major losses to his company, to the extent of liquidation.[21][22][23] Davies and his partner are nowhere to be found owing to their failure to repay the debts.[24][25][26] Some reports claim that the two founders are currently in the UAE, which has emerged as a hotspot for crypto.[27][28][29][30]

Davies and his co-founder have also been alleged to have engaged in currency arbitrage, which allowed them to cash in on the misquoted price from different brokers.[31][32] His company is said to owe $3.5 billion to various crypto companies, which once managed $10 billion in assets.[33]

Davies is a lover of Japanese culture.[34][35] He received the highest honour upon graduating in the Japanese language.[36]
